Background:

This three day workshop is designed for people who have some training and experience in using Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT); ideally having attended a 2 or 3-day introductory course.  We assume that delegates will therefore familiar with the basic evolutionary model; the role of affiliative emotion in threat regulation, distinctions between shame and guilt and competitive versus caring motivational systems and the dimensional nature of our minds.

This is an opportunity to practice some of the core therapeutic skills and interventions and therefore there is a strong emphasis on therapist-client role play in pairs, demonstration of skills both live and using video and experiential exercises.

‍Main features:

  • Working within the therapeutic relationship: including working with projections
  • ‘Mind Mapping’ the core domains of functioning
  • Ways of deepening the concepts of the compassionate self and compassionate image
  • Motive switching – from competitiveness to caring
  • ‘Multiple selves’: using compassion to integrate threat-based emotions such as anger, anxiety and sadness
  • Using functional analysis to work with self-criticism and shame
  • Using Chair work to work with the self-attacking process
  •  Working with the fear and resistance to compassion
